Bio:
Musician and educator Lincoln Herring is based in Decatur, Georgia. He performs piano recitals of the music of the minimalist composers, specializing in Philip Glass. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, Lincoln can also be seen performing on lots of instruments with several Atlanta rock bands. A composer, Lincoln's music is also also featured on two EMDR music therapy albums produced by Alternating Sounds LLC. An educator in metro Atlanta, Lincoln works as K-5 Music Teacher with Gwinnett County Public Schools where he teaches using the Orff Schulwerk pedagogical model. He previously taught three years as Band Director at the Swain School, an independent school in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He has also previously served as Music Department Head at Camp Laurel in central Maine, where he taught Music Production and Songwriting classes. Lincoln currently maintains an online music studio of brass, woodwind, piano, drum set, and music composition students. A composer of songs and of classical music, he has participated in lessons and masterclasses with composers such as John Luther Adams, Caroline Shaw, Steve Mackey, and Michael Daugherty. Lincoln graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan, where his composition teachers included Kristy Kuster, Steve Rush, Evan Chambers, Paul Schoenfeld, and Erik Santos. Lincoln is an experienced recording engineer, with emphasis on acoustic music and rock bands. In the pre-covid times, he recorded recitals of music conservatory students. Lincoln has also served three years as recording technician for the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where he recorded over 100 live concerts. A trumpet player at heart, Lincoln is fluent in performing and teaching in a variety of styles, with a focus on jazz and classical traditions. He has performed on trumpet with many local and collegiate groups including his four years with the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble, Callanwolde Concert Band, UM Jazz Band, UM Latin Jazz Band, and UM Concert Band. Lincoln has taken masterclasses with jazz trumpet players including Marcus Belgrave, Scotty Barnhart, and Lew Soloff. Lincoln has been mentored by trumpet player Bill Lucas of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. When he's not making music, you can find Lincoln backpacking, kayaking, and cycling.
